Google Ads Local Actions - Menu Views: What It Means and How to Set It Up

If you've seen "Local Actions - Menu Views" in your Google Ads conversion goals, or you're wondering why it's missing entirely, here's the direct answer: it tracks clicks on your Business Profile's menu link, and it only exists for listings that actually have one configured. It's one of six local actions conversions, and it's the other vertical-specific goal alongside Orders.

What triggers a "Local Actions - Menu Views" conversion

Per Google's own documentation, Menu views tracks the number of menu clicks on your business locations, while or after engaging with your ads. Google is explicit that it's only available for businesses with the "Menu" click option, restaurants and similar food businesses with a menu link set up on their Business Profile. No menu link configured means no goal, that's expected behavior, not a broken setup.

Is it available for bidding, or reporting only

Reporting only. Menu views, along with Website visits, Other engagements, and Orders, can't be used in a Smart Bidding strategy. You can track the volume of menu clicks, you can't set a bid strategy to chase more of them.

Where to find it in your account

  1. Conversion goals page. Goals → Summary → View all conversion actions, filtered by Conversion Action.
  2. Campaign overview page. Campaigns → add the "All Conversions" column, filtered by Campaign segment.
  3. Stores report. Campaigns → Stores.

How to set it up

  1. Confirm your Business Profile has a menu link configured. This is the prerequisite, it's a food-vertical feature that requires the Menu option to exist on your listing before Google has anything to attach the goal to.
  2. Link your Google Business Profile to Google Ads, if it isn't already, so location assets can be created.
  3. Confirm location assets are active at the account, campaign, and ad group level.
  4. Wait for at least one menu click to occur. Google creates the goal after a real conversion, not before.
  5. Google auto-creates "Local Actions - Menu Views" as a Google-hosted goal. No tag or code to install, it's generated from location asset interaction data.

Eligibility

Available for food-vertical advertisers with a menu link configured on their Business Profile, and active location assets in eligible countries.

Frequently asked questions

Why isn't "Local Actions - Menu Views" appearing in my account? Almost certainly your Business Profile doesn't have a menu link set up. This goal only exists for businesses with the Menu click option configured.

Can I bid toward Local Actions - Menu Views? No. It's reporting-only in every campaign type, the same as Website visits, Other engagements, and Orders.

Does a menu view mean someone actually visited or ordered? No. It only means someone clicked to view your menu from your Business Profile listing. It's an engagement signal, not evidence of a visit or a purchase.

Do I need to install anything for this to work? No. It's a Google-hosted goal generated automatically once your Business Profile is linked, location assets are active, and the Menu option is configured.

What's the difference between Menu Views and Orders? Menu views counts clicks on your menu link. Orders counts clicks on your "Order" button. A restaurant can have one, both, or neither, depending on what's set up on the Business Profile.

Full detail is in Google's own documentation on local actions conversions.

This is one of six local actions conversions. See the full local actions conversions guide for how it compares to the other five.

If you're running Google Ads for a restaurant and want to know whether your tracking, from menu clicks all the way through to actual orders, is set up accurately, that's what conversion tracking covers.
